Proximity makes fast food heaven special
Three years a go I was living on the Northeast side of Gainesville when I was diagnosed with Diabetes. I decided the UF/Shands Clinic on North Main St. made sense as my Doc-In-The-Box medical facility for performing blood tests and other regular medical procedures.
It was on one of my initial visits I noticed right across the chain link fence from the clinic stood a giant red sign with the red-headed pony' tailed Wendy's Mom beckoning the GLOB Master inside with the slogan. "We Believe in Quality. Inside and Out."
'Perfect', was my first thought checking out the freckled Mom for the zillionth time. Right away I began imagining the Wendy's Taco Salad.
Anyone that hasn't been to a Wendy's lately raise your hand. I didn't think so. For a fast food lunch spot Wendy's does a good job with the fresh-is-best have-it-your-way lunch time philosophy. With a plethora of lunch options, burger, specials, and new real cheap combo specials it is easy to see why the drive-thru line at this Main St. burger palace is around the building all day.
The Wendy's French fries are good. Then again for the last three years of French Fries being on the Mike Sanford not allowed list ANY fried potato is a delight, pleasure to behold. (My latest sneaky pleasure is the David's Real Pit Bar-B-Que breakfast Canyon Cubes ... OMG!)
Where I could really go for a yummy Wendy's Double Cheeseburger with American cheese, ettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup, mayo, and onion on a toasted bun GLOBers.
Thinking healthy-er Wendy's offers seven different salads including a yummy looking Southwest Avocado Chicken Salad with a lettuce blend, pepper jack cheese, diced tomatoes, avocado, Applewood smoked bacon, grilled chicken breast topped with Marzetti® Simply Dressed® Southwest Ranch Dressing.
I do get more than a little excite about a Wendy's Taco Salad with Wendy's signature lettuce blend, shredded cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, tortilla chips with a good size serving of Wendy's Chili.
The sides of tortilla chips, sour cream, and a very tasty salsa makes this salad a good lunch option with a full salad for $6.79 The Wendy's Taco salad and I go way back and I find the Taco Salad is a good lunch option for multitude of reason:
With the additional side items of chips sour cream, salsa you can garner your 'Wendy's signature lettuce blend' as you choose.
Your lunch can be relatively carbohydrate free if you are careful. The half salad option is a good size lunch. The full size Taco Salad is plenty big enough to share.
With nutritional values of 620 calories, 12 grams of fiber, 28 grams of protein and 28 grams of fat this appears to be a good, mindful lunch for any one on a special diet.
I saw the scoop of avocado mentioned in the other salads and asked for a 'side of avo' for my salad. Yum! Now that was a very smart idea. The crispness of the salad greens complemented the sharp flavors of the cheese and spicy chili magnificently. I am repeating myself here GLOBers, this is an excellent lunch idea.
More than once I have made plans to go to the Doctor early to make sure I can get in Wendy's for a lunch salad. In conversation with my physician team I like to tell them how I really go for the 'taco salad' next door and get the same response.
"I had one of those today," The medical staffer would say, "I love those salads!"
