Happy Friday!

GLOBmaster2017Good morning Gators!  Happy Friday!! Are you ready for some football?!?!  I know GLOBers this weekend has been a long time coming.  But here we are smack dab in the middle of a really big weekend of fun.  If you still need some entertainment ideas to go along with the Gator game the GLOB Master suggests you don't go no further:

5:00 pm: First Friday Downtown, High Springs. Come and browse a great selection of diverse shops with small town friendliness. Sales, refreshments, entertainment, and multiple give-away baskets.

5:30: Trip to SpainOpening Night, Hipp Cinema, Downtown, various days, times. After jaunts through northern England and Italy, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon embark on another deliciously deadpan culinary road trip. This time around, the guys head to Spain to sample the best of the country's gastronomic offerings in between rounds of their hilariously off-the-cuff banter.

6:30: Uzbekistan Central Asian Fairytale Opening Night, UF Constance and Linton Grinter Gallery of International Art, Grinter Hall, 1523 Union Rd, Aug 28 – Oct 28. The exhibit offers a glimpse into the history, traditions, culture, and everyday life of this central Asian country. Two accompanying lectures will be held in the University Gallery. FOLLOW THIS LINK for more information.

7:30: Friday Family Dance Party, Depot Park, 200 SE Depot Ave. DJ Billy Beats gets everybody moving to the beat. Bring your friends and make new ones too. There's something for everyone to dance to. Free!

8:00: Trailer Park ElegyOpening Night World Premiere, Acrosstown Repertory Theater, 619 S. Main St. Written and directed by Michael Presley Bobbitt. While working at a trailer park to escape publicity from a dark episode in his recent past, Elijah finds the cremated remains of a woman sitting forgotten on a shelf for the past 17 years. A complementary 'postmission' (after-show) beverage available during a 'meet our author, director, cast and crew' reception.

8:00: 1984Opening Night, Hippodrome Theatre and UF School of Theatre + Dance, Gainesville, various days, times. George Orwell's literary dystopian masterpiece comes to life in this exploration of erosion of privacy, destruction of identity, and the role governments and media have in shaping our lives. FOLLOW THIS LINK for more information.

8:00: Heavy Petty, Free Friday Concert Series, Bo Diddley Community Plaza, Downtown. A tribute concert by musicians who pride themselves in playing Tom Petty songs with strict interpretation but in being able to rock out.

9:00 am-5:00 pm: Literacy Month Reading Trail, Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park, 4732 Millhopper Rd. Come out for a self-guided hike along Sink Trail. In celebration of Literacy Month, there is a "Reading Trail" with six stops - each revealing a piece of the Legend of Devil's Millhopper.

5:30: Rudolf Haken on Viola, Guest Artist Recital, UF School of Music, UF Music Building, Room 101 (MUB 101). At the age of ten, Haken conducted his first orchestral works at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Illinois.
