Amidst friendly service it's all about flavor
From $15 tacos to a plate of authentic spicy sliced tongue how can this town handle the opening of another beans and rice, corn or flour tortilla, meat, cheese, and lettuce hacienda lunch stop?
With a one word answer my fine GLOBer – FLAVOR is the secret ingredient.
Enter CILANTROS Tacos Downtown with a contemporary presentation of greenery, and green attitude of succulents, vines on the wall and draping from the ceilings CILANTROS has set the stage for a back to nature lunch time adventure.
Kudos to the CILANTROS team for a smart, different approach to a lunch café with the redesign of a contemporary, restored buildings of this neighborhood street corner.
Having been open for business for years in North Florida first with a taco stand close to the corner of Newberry Rd. and Tower Road, CILANTRO created an established clientele of locals who had no problem driving out to Newberry to get their fix of beans, rice, and tacos when CILANTROS moved out of Hoggetowne. CILANTROS has also operated a food truck for several years around town
In the new café, there is plentiful seating in a long dining room with a corner of soft couches and chairs that were occupied by a mother with babe in arms the day I was there.
Along with the greenery in the dining room my first visit to this lunch stop was full of surprises including a limited Tex-Mex menu of traditional favorites including:
(3) Tacos, served on fresh tortillas. Order them all the way, with your choice of Meat, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, and Cilantro. Order them Authentic, with your choice of Meat, Onion, and Cilantro. $9 - $13.
Your choice of meat plus cheese, or veggie-only, or veggie with meat or cheese-only. $11 - $15.
A huge portion served with your choice of Meat, Fresh Chips, Cheese, Lettuce, Onions, Tomatoes, Cilantro, and Sour Cream. $10 - $14.
BIG BURRITO OR BOWl:
We're talking A 2-handed burritos here. Order your way with Meat of your choice, Beans, Rice, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Cilantro, Cheese, and Sour Cream or Order All-Meat with extra Meat of your choice, no Beans, no Rice. $9 – $13.

Cilantros has an extensive list of side items including Spanish rice, pinto beans, an a L.A. Street Dog an angus beef hot dog with grilled red and green peppers, onions, mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise
There is a full menu at the restaurant link at the bottom of this page.
The quesadilla 'any way you want it' sounded like the perfect Tex-Mex entrée where I could 'dress' the four slices of my chicken quesadilla any way I wanted.
The extra large tortilla was cut into four equal pieces of baked or grilled flour tortillas stuffed with chicken and cheese. I liked the home made tomatilla green sauce, that was darker than usual and bursting with FLAVOR.
Lunch Pal and GLOB Content Editor Emeritus Lynn Dirk ordered some pico de gallo that had its own spicy FLAVOR packing a certain amount of heat that took Captain Dirk by surprise. The dollop of sour cream helped equalize some of the heat coming from my very nicely adorned quesadillas.
CARUMBA GLOBers! The 'stuffed pie' was very good.
What makes Lynn Dirk the perfect lunch pal is we walk into the doors of the eatery with the understanding that this will be a sharing kind of lunch adventure.
Lynn opted for three veggie soft corn tortilla tacos with beans and rice and lettuce, tomato, onion, and cilantro. $9 - $13.
Lynn reports: The tacos were very good and so stuffed with ingredients they got messy fast, one sure sign of delicious food. Cilantros is not just a name; there is a lot of cilantro included in the tacos, which gave them a wonderful freshness. The pico di gallo was also very fresh and a great addition. After I finished my food, I decided to check out the bathroom - which is one of my standard procedures in a new restaurant. The Cilantros women's bathroom was so charming I almost didn't want to leave. Beautiful flower paintings on the wall and a mirror that looks like it might be magical. Very much in keeping with the restaurant's overall style of graciousness from the greenery, very nice wooden tables and chairs lend, and the lounging corners with couches and coffee table.
All right GLOBer. I will admit I have already been back to Cilantros a second time. The Tex-Mex menus is special. The unique Latin American sauces are fresh, delicious, with extraordinary FLAV
