Big red lunch certified, grade 'A' winner

By Mike Sanford, GLOB Editor

WZeatsSFaIt was a nasty weather Wednesday when Gainesville had a record-breaking deluge and the GLOB Master decided it was a good time to try the WZ EAT's Hot Shot chicken wings “for people who love FLAVOR!”

The WZ EAT's Midtown location seemed close enough to the Gainesville Lunch Out Blog’s world wide offices that a 30-minute wait wouldn’t be out of the question for what the WZ described as award-winning wings.

I must admit that the decision to order wings and fries was made very difficult by the wide array of choices this Food On The Run lunch spot creates, wraps in red, and delivers to your door.

Did you know the WZ EAT's has a complete menu of very tasty-sounding sandwiches including a Samurai Chicken Sandwich, a quarter pound Smokehouse Burger, and also sandwiches they call Flavor-Fuzed in either a chicken or hamburger presentation?

On top of those choices they also deliver fried shrimp, salads, and a great big boat load of side orders including Flavor Rub Fries, Onion Rings, Mozarella Stix, Fried Mushrooms, and more.

There is a complete WZ EAT's Menu at the restaurant web link below.

That plethora of lunch time goodies meant the creature-of-habit-driven GLOB Master couldn’t resist trying the WZ EAT's wings.  Check out the menu -- they have 16 different varieties of wings categorized in the WZ EAT's HEAT INDEX by four levels of scovil impact:

1. A polite dose of spark

2. Get your engine going

3. If you like to really sweat

4. BURN with pleasure

I like a good heat in my wing sauce. That doesn’t mean I like to prove I can eat the hottest wings available.   I opted for category four heat in my wings for this lunch. The WZ EAT’s Wedge Fries were an obvious choice for the potato-loving GLOB Master.

Okay, it did kind of feel like a culinary Christmas as I opened the bright red lunch package to find a bounty of very tasty looking chicken wings, fries, and soda. I’m thinking this experience must be how it felt when the Egyptian pharoahs ordered their food delivered to their temple.

The wings were very good. They could have been a little hotter for the GLOB Master. (That’s why I always order a little of the HOTTER sauce on the side, just in case.)

The delivery guy made good time and the French fries were hot, crisp, and very good.

This was an excellent alternative lunch idea. My 10 wings and fries were less than $10 bucks. Thinking about the upcoming football season and tailgating, having Wing Zone deliver a couple of bright red bag of first and second joint poultry delicacies to the party would make the GLOB Master look like a smart clucker.

The Pluses and Minuses of WZ EAT's Restaurant

WZ EAT's (+) indicators: Fast, quick service of a extensive menu.

WZ EAT's (-) Indicator's: These aren't the biggest wings sold in G'ville.

speaking of the biggest wings sold in Gainesville I think Chunkys Wings on Hawthorne Road has the biggest wings and the best flavor sold in Gainesville I have ever tasted.
