Happy Friday!


GLOBmaster2017Good morning GLOBers and a very happy Friday.  HAPPY is the key word today becasue this Sunday is a special day for the GLOB Master since I am assuming three children will not forget dear old dad on Sunday's Father's Day celebration.  Another reason to be HAPPY is the Mighty #1 seeded, National Champion University of Florida baseball team has their first World Series college baseball game against Texas Tech late Sunday afternoon at 6:00. GO GATORS! You know GLOBers life could be oh so...  HAPPIER if all we had to worry about was making a list of fun things to do this weekend.  So let's get to the point of why we meet right here right now on Friday mornings . . .

6:30: Boom For Real: The Late Teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquiat, OPENING NIGHT, Hipp Cinema, various days – times, Downtown. Boom for Real follows acclaimed American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat through his formative years in New York City in the late 1970s. Featuring never-before-seen works, photographs, and archival footage, the film chronicles how New York City, the time period, and his fellow artists transformed Basquiat into the artist we know today.




7:00: Seed & Spark — A Night of Summer Storytelling, Working Food, 219 NW 10th Ave. Local storytelling group Guts & Glory GNV hosts this event with themes of summer. Prior to the event a food truck will be on hand selling food while event goers enjoy can also enjoy drinks. Storytellers will tell tales with themes of discovery, nature, farming and personal growth. Tickets: $12, $10 for student (




7:00: Honky Tonkin' Opry, Triple Cross Ranch, 20736 NW 100th Avenue Road, Micanopy. Live radio show recording featuring Cheyenne Rose, Judy McKibbin, Bruce Mosley and Leland Mitchell. Hosted by Norm Edwards and the The Jayc Harold Band. Also features comedy acts. Concessions onsite. Tickets: $10-$15. (615-492-8253).




8:00: The Shakedown, Free Fridays Concert Series, Bo Diddley Community Plaza, Downtown. a five-piece, Gainesville based band specializing in contemporary blues with a rock and classic soul edge. The band has some of its greatest influences from blues greats such as Albert King and Koko Taylor to the newer stylings of artists like Walter Trout, Susan Tedeschi, Eric Clapton and Danielle Nicole. 9:00: Connect The Dots Live Show, Civic Media Center, 433 S. Main St., Downtown. Featuring: Pco Lipps, Shark Anatomy and Jane Eyre. Free, donations appreciated.




10:30: Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami, OPENING NIGHT, Hipp Cinema, various days – times, Downtown. Superstar Grace Jones herself has said watching this film "will be like seeing me almost naked" as it reveals her world off and on the stage. Sophie Fiennes's documentary takes us on an electrifying journey through the public and private life of pop culture mega-icon Grace Jones, contrasting dazzling performances like Pull Up to the Bumper with intimate personal footage. 9:30: Junior Ranger Program Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, 100 Savannah Blvd., Micanopy. Come visit our Junior Ranger table on Saturday. Learn how to become a Junior Ranger and join us for lots of cool nature activities. Children can complete the Junior Ranger CORE activities, collect passport stamps, and earn an official Junior Ranger badge, patch, or pin. Junior Ranger activities are appropriate for children aged 6 and up, but we will also have critter coloring pages and puzzles available for all ages. No reservation required. Meet us inside the Visitor Center located within the main park entrance, off US 441 in Micanopy. 9:30am to 3:30pm. This event is free to park visitors.




7:30: Start Making Sense: The Ballad of Gary Gordon, Thomas Center, 302 NE Sixth Ave. An evening of original songs and some storytelling by Gordon, who returns to Gainesville after 28 years. In addition to his work as a musician, Gordon was a local political activist who served on the city's commission and as mayor in the '80s.





9:00: Father's Day Blueberry Picking, Deep Spring Farm, 16419 W County Rd 1491, Alachua. you celebrate Dad and things he values with Father's Day at Deep Spring Farm. Start thinking of that something special you can whip up for Dad at home (smoothie, muffins, pancakes, crisp, pie, mojito). 9:30: Junior Ranger Program, Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park, 4732 Millhopper Rd. Visit the Junior Ranger table on Sunday from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm Learn how to become a Junior Ranger and join us for lots of cool nature activities! We will be doing critter coloring pages, native vs. invasive plants, and wildlife watching throughout the day. These activities are welcome for all ages, however the Junior Ranger program is usually appropriate for children aged 6 and up. Participants can complete the Junior Ranger CORE activities, collect passport stamps, and earn an official Junior Ranger badge, patch, or pin. No reservation required. Meet at the table under the right side of the Millhopper's visitor center.




2:00: Father's Day at the Museum, High Springs Museum, High Springs. Father's Day Blues is to honor thy father in a different fashion with a little Blues. Featuring all acoustic, upclose and personal performances by: Sheba the Mississippi Queen and Jim Allen's Finger Lickin' Blues. Hors d'oeuvres by the Great Outdoors Restaurant, The Diner, Brett Harder's world famous chili. $10 Donations suggested. Reservations Required! Seating is limited! Reserve your seats now!

RESTAURANT OPENING:  The corner restaurant on NW 23rd avenue has been restored to a long time GLOB Master favorite cuisine by a long a familiar restaurant team with an every day fresh lunch buffet.

The last time a British artist had a simultaneous US and UK number one was in November 2000 with 1, a compilation of hits by The Beatles.
