GLOBmaster2017Good morning GLOBers and Happy 'last Monday in March 2018'.   On March 26, 1953, American medical researcher Dr. Jonas Salk announced on a national radio show that he had successfully tested a vaccine against poliomyelitis, the virus that causes the crippling disease of polio. In 1952–an epidemic year for polio–there were 58,000 new cases reported in the Uited States, and more than 3,000 died from the disease. The GLOB Master is expecting a beautiful week of weather with little indication of rain in the coming days. Hmmm . . .  That sounds like the perfect recipe for lunch on some beautiful lunch time veranda . . .



Race: The Power of an Illusion: Tonight's Civic Media Center Monday movie is titled Race: The Power of an Illusion and is presented by Gainesville's Black Hats. This three part series of "Race: The Power of an Illusion" can be viewed today at 4:00.  Race: The Power of an Illusion" was produced by California Newsreel and investigated race in society, science and history. "Lost Springs" Returns to the Matheson -  Tonight's 6:00 screening at the Matheson History Musuem, 513 East University Ave. marks the public release of the documentary online as a birthday present for Marjorie Harris Carr. A discussion of the lost springs and Marjorie Carr’s environmental legacy will follow the film screening. This evening's program includes a screening of the final version of Matt Keene's documentary, "Lost Springs," and a celebration honoring the 103rd anniversary of environmentalist Marjorie Harris Carr's birth.
