Happy Wednesday!

GLOBmaster2017

Good morning GLOBers.  It is a true statement that the worst of times really brings the best out of people. Partnering, teamwork is really what life is all about.  David's Real Pit BBQ and Gainesville Regional Utilities exemplify that statement the last few days by David's BBQ was acting as the food support team for hungry GRU technicians working around the clock throughout Gainesville restoring electrical power to Hogtown.  "GRU asked David's to be the meal provider to their field staff so we are serving over 800 meals three times a day to their crews that are helping put Gainesville power back online."  David's President Jeremy Hood said.

It's Union St. Downtown Farmers Market Wednesday and Farmer and Market Elder Charlie Lybrand says persimmons have started their season:

Lion’s mane and oyster mushrooms have become available. The range of products is expanding each week, and crops like bitter melon and holy basil have begun to yield. Pork and pasture raised chicken are now regularly available. Southern peas- acres, pinkeyes and zipper cream- are yielding. Okra continues to produce.. Peppers, eggplant and yardlong beans also continue to yield. Seminole pumpkins and butternut squash are still being offered. Field grown tomatoes are finished, but farmers are still producing in greenhouses and high tunnels . Potatoes in varied varieties and zinnias are available. Sweet potato greens and arugula are now coming in.  Florida sweet onions- both red and white- are available. Cool weather crops like collards are still being harvested. Kale continues to be harvested. Garlic chives, scallions and turmeric can be found."
