Happy Monday!


Good morning GLOBers and a big Happy Monday to you.  Well, here we are, setting our sights on the first Florida Gator football game of 2017.  Wow GLOers!  Not only that this is not some directional school we will be playing.  This is the Big Ten University of Michigan Wolverines in a special season opening event in Dallas Texas.  Talking about being under pressure.  We will find out this weekend how good this Mighty Gator football team really is.  GO GATORS!

Long time Venezuelan anarchist organizer and journalist Rodolfo Montes de Oca will present a short film: Extractivism in Venezuela: Veins Remain Open. tonight at the Civic Media Center.  This film describes what "extractivism" or extractive industry is and what impact this activity has had on the Venezuelan economy,  FOLLOW THIS LINK for more information.



Uzbekistan: Central Asian Fairytale opens today in the Constance and Linton Grinter Gallery of International Art in Grinter Hall. This exhibit offers a glimpse into the history, traditions, culture and everyday life of Uzbekistan. There will be two accompanying lectures held in the University Gallery at noon on September 15 and October 20, 2017. The opening reception for this show will be held on September 1, 2017 at 6:30 pm. the Florida Gator Volleyball team posted history making victories as the #11 ranked Lady Gator Volleyball team made history with the first time in program history defeating consecutive top-five opponents,  The Gators came away with victories over two top-five opponents beating #1 ranked Texas Friday night and capping the two-day VERT Challenge with wins over No. 5 Nebraska Saturday evening.  Holding two top-five opponents under a .160 clip since 1998, the Gators did it in both their matches this weekend, limiting Texas to a .156 hitting percentage Friday night.
